Wino Wednesday: Three Questions, Five Local Deals

Wednesdays used to mean midweek leftovers. Now they mean a quiz, a swirl, and a short list of places that still put a human behind the cork.

Welcome to Wino Wednesday — week one. I am not handing out certifications. I am handing out three questions, five local deals from independently owned shops, and one dad joke about tannins. Treat it like a pregame warm-up for your wine rack.

1. Michael's Wine Cellar — Champagne Flash Sale

Michael's has a live Champagne Flash Sale with sparkling bottles tagged from $19.95 (a Spanish cava) up through Champagne house names. Sarasota address on the page: 1283 S. Tamiami Trail. Funny take: Bubbles on sale is the only flash I want midweek. Lightning can wait.

2. Fine Wine & Tastings on Main — mix-and-match case discounts

Fine Wine & Tastings in Lakewood Ranch lists everyday retail discounts: 5% off 6 bottles and 10% off 12 or more, mix and match, from a 300+ bottle shop on Main Street. Funny take: That is not a case study. That is a case. Your pantry will thank you. Your shelf space will file a complaint.

3. Malmosto Wine Shop and Kitchen — case of wine, pizza on the house

Malmosto on Siesta Drive posts a standing special: buy a mix-and-match case of wine and get a pizza on the house. Italian-leaning list, pizza from imported flour, hours starting at 5 p.m. Funny take: Carb loading, but make it Pinot. The only workout is carrying the case to the car.

4. Vino Bistro Sarasota — Wine Flight Wednesdays for $25

Vino Bistro in the Rosemary District runs Wednesday wine flights at $25 all evening — four pours from four regions — with all-day happy hour pricing that day. Dine-in promo rules apply; call 941-952-3172. Funny take: Four regions in one sitting. Fewer passport stamps. Better tannins than TSA.

5. Michael's Wine Cellar — Saturday Open House tasting (Oct. 3)

Same shop, different play: the Saturday Open House on Oct. 3, 1–3 p.m. is $25 for 40–60 wines, lite bites, and double loyalty points on purchases that day. Doors at 1 — not earlier. Funny take: I will treat the tasting mat like a scorecard. Draft the Syrah. Bench the bottle that tastes like regret.
