Good News on X: The Rays Are One Win Away, Japan Leaves for a Mars Moon at 3:41 and the Turtles Are Up $8,440
The Rays won Game 5 in Cleveland and can clinch the pennant at the Trop tonight, two IMG Academy grads got their firsts on Sunday, an Anna Maria photographer's calendar has raised $8,440 for sea turtles, Japan launches a Phobos sample run this afternoon, and a mystery AI model named Space Bunny finally took off its mask.
Good News on X Every morning. See the whole weekly lineup →
The National Weather Service in Ruskin says the whole work week looks like highs around 80 and lows around 60, which is the forecast people move here for and then complain about on Facebook when it's 58 at the bus stop. Everything else on X this morning is also in a good mood. Here's what's worth your coffee.
The Rays are one win from the World Series, and it's at the Trop
Tampa Bay beat Cleveland 3-1 in Game 5 on Sunday and flew home up 3-2 in the ALCS. Per the ESPN box score, Drew Rasmussen went seven innings and gave up one run on four hits with six strikeouts, Yandy Díaz had three hits, and the Rays got their runs on a bases-loaded walk by Jonny DeLuca in the first and RBI singles from Jonathan Aranda and Liam Hicks. Then everybody got on a plane. The team's post after the last out was two words longer than it needed to be.
One to go.

Game 6 is tonight at 8 p.m. ET at Tropicana Field on TBS and truTV, with Freddy Peralta listed as the Rays' starter on ESPN. Cleveland hadn't named one when I checked. The Rays also asked people to pack the house and "give the guys a warm welcome," which is a polite way of saying bring your loud cousin.
The line, per DraftKings via ESPN (pulled about 9:25 a.m. ET Monday): the Rays are the moneyline favorite, TB -149 / CLE +123. Run line Tampa Bay -1.5 (+155), Cleveland +1.5 (-188). O/U 6.5 (over -114, under -105). The Rays opened at -130, so the money has been coming in on the home team since last night.

Two IMG Academy grads got their firsts on Sunday
IMG Academy's football account spent Sunday doing what every proud aunt does, which is post everything. Two of its grads had a first in the NFL. Carnell Tate caught his first touchdown, a game-tying grab against the Colts, and finished with six catches for 70 yards in the Titans' 26-20 win in Indianapolis.
FIRST NFL TD. BIG-TIME MOMENT. Carnell Tate delivered when Tennessee needed him most! From IMG Academy to the NFL end zone!

The other one was rookie Daylen Everette, who got his first NFL interception for the Steelers. It came against the Bucs. In Tampa. We'll be happy for him anyway, because he played his high school ball about an hour south of where he did it, and that's a nice thing even on a Sunday that didn't go our way.
An Anna Maria photographer's calendar is up to $8,440 for sea turtles
Angie Blunt, whose beach photos and heron Bob we've shown off here before, sells a 2027 calendar of her Anna Maria Island pictures, and 100% of the donations go to Anna Maria Island Turtle Watch & Shorebird Monitoring. Twelve weeks in, she's at $8,440.32 toward a $20,000 goal.
WEEK 12 FUNDRAISING UPDATE…almost $8,500 raised for our sea turtles! EVERY CALENDAR MAKES A DIFFERENCE!
— Angie Blunt (@smile1fish) See it on X
The suggested donation is $5 a calendar with no maximum, which may be the best deal on the island. You can pick one up at the Anna Maria Island Chamber at 5313 Gulf Drive, Lazy Turtle Beach Rentals and Anna Maria Life Vacation Rentals at 314 Pine Ave., Ginny & Jane E's at 9807 Gulf Drive and a few other spots she lists, or order from her shop online. She'll also be at the Suzi Fox Turtle Watch Wednesday fundraiser this Wednesday, Oct. 21, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Hurricane Hanks, 5346 Gulf Drive in Holmes Beach. Every calendar you buy there gets you a raffle ticket for one of her photos as a 12x16 canvas print. Five dollars, a beer and a shot at wall art. I've made worse Wednesday decisions.
Japan leaves for a moon of Mars at 3:41 this afternoon
We flagged this one last week, and today's the day. JAXA's Martian Moons eXploration mission, MMX, is set to lift off on H3 rocket Flight No. 10 from Tanegashima Space Center at 4:41:03 a.m. Tuesday Japan time, per JAXA's launch notice. That's 3:41 p.m. our time today. If it slips, JAXA has a backup window from Oct. 21 to Nov. 9.

The plan is to land on Phobos, scoop up some of its surface and have it back on Earth in 2031. Nobody has ever brought home a sample from a moon of another planet. A five-year round trip to grab a little dirt is the most committed errand I've ever heard of, and I once drove to Arcadia for a specific tomato.
Space Bunny was a real model the whole time
For the tech crowd: an anonymous AI model called "Space Bunny" has been sitting near the top of developer leaderboards for a while, and nobody would admit to making it. This morning the Shanghai company MiniMax claimed it with a short rocket-launch video: "Welcome back. Space Bunny."
Welcome back. Space Bunny. MiniMax-M3.1-Flash is coming.
— MiniMax (official) (@MiniMax_AI) Watch on X
A couple of hours later the company made it official: Space Bunny, which it says topped global leaderboards with more than 200 trillion tokens served, was an early version of its new M3.1 Flash. The pitch is frontier-level smarts at a lower price and higher speed. The developers who'd been using it without knowing whose it was took the news like people finding out the guy who plays guitar at the tiki bar is in a real band.
A new K-pop album dropped at 5 a.m. our time and it's called "12 o'clock"
SEVENTEEN's Jeonghan and Joshua put out their first mini album as the duo JxJ. It's called DREAMSCAPE, the title track is "12 o'clock," and it came out at 6 p.m. in Seoul, which is 5 a.m. here. The label announced the release right on time, and fans have been streaming it since before the sun came up over Lakewood Ranch.
Now it's twelve

They also sat down with Variety about finding a duo sound "right in the middle between strong and subtle." That's also how I'd describe a good gumbo.
It's National Seafood Bisque Day
National Day Calendar has Oct. 19 down as National Seafood Bisque Day, plus National Kentucky Day and National Clean Your Virtual Desktop Day. Stone crab season opened last week, so somebody on this coast has the shells for a proper bisque. Me, I'm cleaning the desktop. There are 41 files on mine called "screenshot" and I'm not ready to talk about it.
That's the good news for Monday. First pitch at 8, liftoff at 3:41, turtles on Wednesday. Get your chores done early.
