Tamiami Has a Butter Chicken Truck Now. The Building Is Still Mid-Remodel.
Red Chillez Indian Fusion Food Truck parks at 4413 S. Tamiami Trail while the former Mama G's gets renovated into a full restaurant. Curry bowls, samosas, wraps — and the fries come with them.
I pulled up expecting a restaurant. I got a food truck, a renovation site, and a butter chicken wrap that made the whole detour feel intentional.
Red Chillez Indian Fusion Food Truck has been parking at 4413 S. Tamiami Trail — the future home of a full Red Chillez Indian Cuisine restaurant — while the former Mama G's German Bakery & Coffeehouse gets rebuilt on the inside. Four local women brought the franchise to Sarasota. The truck debuted July 3 at Nathan Benderson Park and now runs six days a week at the site when it is not at a community event, according to the Herald-Tribune.
Fusion first. Brick-and-mortar later.
Co-owner Gopika Trivedi told the paper the truck leans fusion; the restaurant will go more traditional once renovations finish. In August, the hoped-for restaurant opening was "about two months" out. As of this morning's September dining roundup, that brick-and-mortar still was not on the "newly opened" list — so the truck is the move for now. Confirm on their socials (@redchillezindiancuisine) before you drive; hours shift for special events.
Per the Herald-Tribune write-up, typical truck hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday.
What I am ordering like I live there
The regular truck menu, from that same report: gluten-free curry bowls, samosas, momos, naan, fries and onion rings. Grab-and-go wraps come with butter chicken, paneer masala, or spicy chickpeas / potatoes and cheese — and they throw in the fries. One August night they ran an Indo-Chinese special with hot-and-sour soup, Szechuan noodles, Chinese samosas and loaded momos. I am not saying I timed a lunch break around that. I am saying the calendar noticed.
This will be Florida's second Red Chillez and the sixth in the country, after the first opened in Largo in 2024. Somewhere a German bakery's ghost is watching Indian fusion roll out of a truck on the same lot, and I think that is the most Sarasota sentence I have written all week.
