Good News on X: Caminero Broke a Scoreboard, the Bears Kicked a 58-Yarder and Science Folders Are Green

Junior Caminero dented Milwaukee's scoreboard before Game 1, the Bears won on a 58-yard kick, a Clemson lineman rang the bell, Rocket Lab went 98 for 98 on launches and Manatee County built a swamp escape room. Friday's good stuff from X.

Good News on X Every morning. See the whole weekly lineup →

The Rays play their first World Series game since 2020 tonight, and the Lightning drop the puck in Denver about an hour later. If you've got two TVs, today is the day they finally earn their keep. If you've got one, I'm sorry, and I'm also free to come over.

Here's what people on X were cheering about since last night.

Junior Caminero said hello to Milwaukee's scoreboard

The Rays worked out at American Family Field on Thursday, and Junior Caminero took batting practice like he had a personal problem with the center-field video board. WTSP's Evan Closky caught the swing that knocked out part of it:

Ten seconds long, and by this morning it had close to 400,000 views. The scoreboard did not get a vote.

Game 1 is tonight at 8 p.m. ET on Fox, Nick Martinez against Jacob Misiorowski. If you want company, the Rays are running their official Game 1 watch party at Tropicana Field (doors at 7).

The line, per DraftKings via ESPN (pulled about 9:25 a.m. ET Friday): Milwaukee is the favorite, MIL -198 / TB +162. Run line MIL -1.5 (+122), TB +1.5 (-147). O/U 6.5. That's a big move toward the Brewers since Thursday morning, when it was -161. The scoreboard has apparently been talking to Vegas.

The Lightning are in Denver tonight, and Victor the Viking is on a card

Tampa Bay (7-2-0) plays at Colorado tonight at 9 p.m. ET from Ball Arena, the first half of a back-to-back.

The line, per DraftKings via ESPN (pulled about 9:25 a.m. ET): Colorado is the favorite, COL -125 / TB +105. Puck line COL -1.5 (+195), TB +1.5 (-238). O/U 6.5.

Also from the Bolts this week: the team's collectible card giveaways start Oct. 29 with Victor Hedman, billed as "Victor the Viking," and a limited number of signed copies go up for auction with the money going to the @LightningFDN. It's the only card collection I know of where the guy on the front has an actual beard to back up the nickname.

Manatee County built a swamp escape room

This one's for the family calendar. Manatee County is running "Escape Room: Swamp Mystery" at The NEST at Robinson Preserve, 840 99th Street in Bradenton, on Nov. 6 and 7. The story goes like this: a fisherman named Curtis Wallace has gone missing in the swamp, and the kids are the investigators. They hunt for hidden clues, collect the items they'll need and solve it.

Per the county's flyer it's $15, there are multiple sessions both days, and it's meant for ages 8 and up. Reservations are required, through the county's parks registration page. My guess is Curtis is fine and just found a really good fishing spot he doesn't want to tell anybody about. Every fisherman around here is Curtis.

The Bears won it with a 58-yard kick

Thursday night in Chicago, Caleb Williams threw for 308 yards and two touchdowns and the Bears beat Drake Maye and the Patriots 30-24, per the ESPN game recap. Luther Burden had four catches for 130 yards. The kick of the night came from Cairo Santos, who missed from 53 earlier in the fourth and then came back and hit a 58-yarder with 1:34 left. Per ESPN, that's his career long and ties the franchise record.

Chicago is 5-2. Going in, DraftKings had the Bears -3 with a total of 50.5, so the Bears covered and the over hit with room to spare. Plenty of folks around here have a soft spot for Chicago, and this morning they're all a little tired and very happy.

A Clemson lineman rang the bell

This is the one to watch with a coffee. Clemson defensive tackle Hevin Brown-Shuler finished his 12th and final round of chemotherapy for Hodgkin lymphoma on Thursday and rang the bell at Prisma Health Cancer Institute in Greenville, with family, friends, teammates and coach Dabo Swinney there, per WYFF.

Clemson announced his diagnosis in May, and he's kept going to meetings, training and standing on the sideline all season. Back then he said he couldn't wait to run down the hill and touch Howard's Rock again in 2027, per Clemson Wire. That's the plan, and it looks like a good one.

Rocket Lab went 98 for 98 on the first try

Overnight, while we were asleep, Rocket Lab launched its 98th Electron from New Zealand on the first attempt. The mission was called "We're Not Hawking Around," and it carried three satellites for HawkEye 360. All three deployed. It's Rocket Lab's 19th mission of the year and its third for that customer, all successful.

They also reported a "space jellyfish," which is what launch people call the glowing plume a rocket makes in the upper atmosphere at twilight, and not a new problem for the beach flag system.

On the airplane side, Boom Supersonic founder Blake Scholl posted three announcements Thursday: the company's first supersonic turbine core is finished and shipping to testing, its Superfactory in south Denver is already making parts, and it's building its own all-digital foundry for single-crystal turbine blades. They also built their own furniture for the event green room, which is the most committed thing I've read all week.

It's Mole Day, and the science folder is green

Today is National Mole Day, the chemistry holiday for 6.02 x 10^23, celebrated on 10/23 for obvious reasons. It also happens to be National Boston Cream Pie Day, which gives you a reason to show up to chemistry class with a fork.

The Weather Channel weighed in on the important science question of the week:

Nearly 14,000 likes and plenty of folks arguing about whether math is blue or red. For the record, math was blue, English was red and I can't remember what history was.

Planning the weekend? Coming This Week has the list, and Brooke's Out There has the windy-weekend version.

That's Friday. One dented scoreboard, one long kick, one bell and a rocket that keeps showing up on time. Go Rays.

Can't pick? Pull a random one From the food, wine and myth-busting pile. No old game slates.
