There's an App for Finding the Food Truck That's Never Where You Left It

FoodTrukt puts every Sarasota and Bradenton food truck on one live map. It's free, and it's how Marina keeps track of her favorite pizza: Dan Apizz' Man, whose home base is about to get a lot more interesting.

Every food truck lover knows the move. You see a great truck on Instagram, you drive across town, and the parking lot contains a lot, parked, with no truck in it.

FoodTrukt is the fix. It's a free app that puts local food trucks on one map and lets the owners tap "go live" so you see a pin exactly where they're serving. A pulsing green pin means open now. You can also read menus and weekly schedules, filter by cuisine, and "flavorite" your regulars so your phone buzzes when they go live or park nearby.

Two guys, one missed lunch

Your Observer reported in July that FoodTrukt was started by Josh Barth and Adam Ott, two former software colleagues, after Barth kept missing his favorite trucks by a few minutes. It's built around Sarasota and Manatee, and consumers never pay. Truck owners can list for free or buy upgrades.

The FoodTrukt map of Sarasota, with 46 trucks nearby

Here's the map on my phone. Forty-six trucks nearby, a pin for nearly every craving, and not one of them in the wrong parking lot.

My truck: Dan Apizz' Man

I'll tell you the truck I check first. Dan Apizz' Man makes New Haven-style pizza, the thin, charred, blistered kind, and I love it. Their app profile says it's the first and only New Haven-style apizza on Florida's West Coast, and it lists a "Best of SRQ 2026" nomination. I can only vouch for the pizza, which is excellent.

The truck has been parked at Sun King's Sarasota taproom on Mango Avenue, and the app is how I check whether the ovens are lit. They have a reputation for selling out, so I'd check before you go.

The part where it gets better

On Sept. 23, Sun King announced that its Sarasota brewery is handing off brewing to a Bradenton partner starting this month. The Sarasota taproom becomes The Brewer's Collaborative Tap House, run by Dan Apizz' Man, which plans to add a small brewing system and work with brewers from Brew Life, 3 Car Garage and 3 Bridges Brewing. Sun King beers keep flowing. I don't have an opening date yet, so keep an eye on the app.

A pizza truck that becomes a taproom. That's the kind of story we like around here.
