Sarasota Paradise is the county's first professional sports team, and tonight they host Charlotte Independence at Premier Sports Campus, 5895 Post Blvd., Lakewood Ranch. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. USL League One. Intimate stadium. You can smell the grass from the South Stand.

What you are actually buying

Single-game tickets for tonight start at $13. That is not a typo from 1998. The club lists a rough 3,000-seat bowl with food trucks, live music on some nights, and the kind of sightlines where a bad call is a group conversation. Premium seats and hospitality packages go higher if you want the air-conditioned tent and buffet, which is a valid life choice.

The 2026 home schedule still has October dates left after tonight: Richmond Kickers on the 10th, then Westchester SC on the 24th. FC Naples also shows up mid-month on the ticket site. Season and snowbird packages exist if you are the type who plans vacations around a league table. I am not.

Why this game, tonight

Charlotte Independence is a real USL League One side, not a friendly against a college alumni club. Paradise is deep into its inaugural pro season, and Lakewood Ranch finally has a Saturday night that does not require explaining what "USL" means to your uncle. Bring cash for the trucks. Bring a light jacket if you are from Ohio and still negotiating with Florida evenings.

I will not pretend I scouted Charlotte's midfield. I will say a thirteen-dollar night out with actual professional soccer is rarer on this coast than a parking spot near Siesta at noon.

The wine note

Win or lose, the drive home on University Parkway is shorter if you already know which bottle is waiting. Something cold. Something that did not come from a cooler under a bleacher.
