Florida Fans, Sit Down. Missouri Just Ruined the Gators' Saturday.

Sad Saturday for Florida: No. 25 Missouri beat the No. 8 Gators 45-17, plus Alabama's blowout, Ohio State over Iowa, and the full prime-time slate with TV.

I don't have a joke for this one. The Gators are our team down here, the one half of Florida talks about at weddings and funerals, and today in Columbia they were run over by a No. 25 Missouri team that kept scoring and never looked back. It is a sad Saturday in the Sunshine State, and Missouri is the reason.

Scores below are from the ESPN college football scoreboard for Saturday, Oct. 3, filtered to AP Top 25 teams only. Nothing here is invented. Scores and statuses are a snapshot from around 8:30 p.m. ET.

The one that hurts: Missouri runs Florida out of Columbia

Final: No. 25 Missouri 45, No. 8 Florida 17.

The Gators were ranked eighth in the country and walked into Columbia as the favorite. They walked out of it down 28. Florida fans were hoping for a statement win and got a statement loss. For a lot of us down here, this was the game that was going to set the tone for the season, and it went quiet early and stayed that way.

There is no spin. Missouri was better today, and it showed on every drive. The Gators have a long flight home, a short week to feel this, and a fan base that will somehow still show up next Saturday. That is what loyalty looks like. It is also why this one stings.

Afternoon and early results

Finals first. Then the ones still ticking.

Finals

  • No. 2 Georgia 38, Vanderbilt 14 — Georgia did the Georgia thing. Vanderbilt did not.
  • No. 3 Notre Dame 37, North Carolina 26 — Irish win on the road. Not pretty. Still a win.
  • No. 5 Ohio State 31, No. 14 Iowa 14 — Buckeyes closed it in Iowa City. Hawkeyes ran out of answers.
  • No. 7 Alabama 56, No. 16 Mississippi State 23 — The Tide made lunch look optional. State stays ranked for now; the scoreboard did not care.
  • No. 17 Tennessee 24, Auburn 14 — Volunteers held on.
  • No. 20 Houston 27, UCF 17 — The Knights covered nothing and left Houston with a loss. That noon number from yesterday aged poorly for UCF fans.
  • No. 21 SMU 25, Boston College 16 — Mustangs stay rolling.
  • No. 24 Kentucky 35, South Carolina 34 (OT) — Final in overtime. One point. Somebody's blood pressure is not okay.

Night slate (the big section)

Prime time is why you kept the remote charged. Everything below has kicked off, and none of it is final. Scores and clocks are from ESPN as of about 8:30 p.m. ET.

Odds are the pregame lines from DraftKings, as listed on ESPN: favorite, point spread and over/under at kickoff. They are not live odds and they will not update as the games go on.

Kick (ET) Matchup TV Pregame line (DraftKings via ESPN) Status
7:00 PM No. 10 BYU at TCU ESPN BYU -5.5 at TCU, O/U 48.5 Live, tied 7-7, 0:27 left in the 2nd
7:30 PM No. 4 Miami at Clemson ABC Miami -14 at Clemson, O/U 49.5 Live, Miami 10-3, 0:04 left in the 1st
7:30 PM No. 12 Texas Tech at Colorado FOX Texas Tech -13.5 at Colorado, O/U 50.5 Live, Colorado 7-3, 12:19 left in the 2nd

7:30 PM Utah State at No. 22 Boise State CBSSN Boise State -19.5 vs. Utah State, O/U 50.5 Live, Boise State 14-0, 13:56 left in the 2nd
7:45 PM McNeese at No. 11 LSU SEC Network LSU -53.5 vs. McNeese, O/U 62.5 Live, LSU 14-0, 2:42 left in the 1st
8:00 PM No. 6 Indiana at Rutgers BTN Indiana -24.5 at Rutgers, O/U 56.5 Live, Indiana 7-0, 6:16 left in the 1st

So the numbers say Miami is a two-touchdown road favorite at Clemson, and Miami leads by a touchdown with four seconds left in the first quarter. Texas Tech, down in Boulder, is giving 13.5 and is currently trailing. Dry observation. Not advice.

Miami-Clemson is the one your group chat will pretend is casual. BYU-TCU is the one that sneaks up on people who only watch SEC, and a 5.5-point favorite is currently tied. Indiana on the road at night is the quiet trap game of the board. I am not picking sides in this paragraph. I am naming the TVs and the numbers.

Ranked teams off today

No. 1 Texas, No. 9 Ole Miss, No. 13 Utah, No. 15 Oregon, No. 19 Oklahoma State, and No. 23 UCLA are not on Saturday's scoreboard — bye week. Texas is next up at Oklahoma on Oct. 10. Everyone else: enjoy the remote without your own pulse.

Quick housekeeping

Rankings are the AP Top 25 through Sept. 26 (NCAA.com). Live scores refresh from ESPN. Yesterday's Saturday lines post is still sitting there if you want to see how the Florida-Missouri number looked before Columbia got loud.

More scores after the night slate. For now, a moment of quiet for the Gators.
